COLGHA Lightning Award Nominations are OPEN

Apr. 04, 2024

Greetings Lightning players and families!

The Collingwood Girls Hockey Association is happy to announce that we are now accepting nominations for our annual awards that will be presented in addition to our Ivy Martin Spark Student Volunteer of the Year Award at our year-end banquet.

Along with the Szabados, Wickenheiser and Eighteenth Pillar awards this year, the association will also be recognizing an individual member of a Bench Staff, or an entire Bench Staff, who has gone above and beyond to make a lasting impact through their commitment and dedication to their respective role(s) on the team through the presentation of The ‘Top Shelf’ Bench Staff of the Year Award.

Together with this new award, we hope to continue to recognize the achievements and contributions of deserving recipients in the Lightning Association.

Nominations are open to any player, parent/guardian, coach, trainer, manager, den mother, or associated volunteer that has worked within our association this season.

If you, or your child, would like to submit a nomination for any of these awards, please review the award criteria below and click on the accompanying link to complete and submit the nomination. Almost all of our Lightning email messages will only go to a parent/guardian so please feel free to forward this email to your child so that they may also have the opportunity to nominate a deserving candidate if they desire.

*Nominators must have NO relation to the nominee

THE SZABADOS GOALTENDING AWARD

The Shannon Szabados Award for outstanding goaltender will be presented to both the junior (U9 to U13) and senior (U15 to U18) goaltenders who have demonstrated sound, and consistent abilities throughout the season.

They model consistency, perseverance, determination, growth, and hard work, to their teammates and maintain positive conduct and attitude on and off the ice.

This award will consider statistics but will not be solely based on them and more focused on the qualities previously described.

This award recognizes the extraordinary contributions and influence of an individual amongst a group of peers by highlighting hockey excellence demonstrated by a player’s performance; impeccable team leadership and commitment; as well as a player’s ability to consistently support their teammates. This player’s influence throughout the season raises the level of play and overall hockey experience and success for their whole team.

Building on the foundation that our original 17 members established for our association, this individual always goes above and beyond in their duties, making invaluable contributions, and championing the growth and development of both players and the association.
